The Van Buren County Road Commission is reminding everyone of its snow plowing policies now that southwest Michigan roads are getting covered with snow. It says it’s responsible for maintaining more than 2,600 miles of road in the county, and they’re plowed and salted according to priority. Each snowfall will be treated in a unique way depending on the temperature, ice conditions, and depth of snow. Routine snow removal operations will begin on the affected areas of the County Primary Road network as a first priority. Those roads include Red Arrow Highway, Blue Star Highway, and all roads with the County Road, or CR, designation. Secondary streets are addressed next. The normal plowing schedule is eight hours per day Monday through Friday, while plows will be out on the weekend when there is four inches or more of snow or hazardous conditions.
