It’s already happening in Chicago, with the Windy City soon requiring proof of a COVID-19 vaccine before people can enter indoor spaces like bars, restaurants, and gyms. Governor Gretchen Whitmer was asked Wednesday by Michigan News Network if that could happen in Michigan.

“I think it would be good for not just public health, but maybe for a number of businesses to let people know, ‘This is a safe space,’” Whitmer said. “This is a determination that I think will be made at the local level, and I encourage leaders to consider doing that as we continue to see how incredibly contagious this particular variant is. We want o keep people safe, we want to keep businesses open.”

Whitmer says she has no plans to issue any new mandates or executive orders. She is again calling on Michiganders to get vaccinated or boosted to help stop the spread of COVID-19.
