Michigan State Police say a 5-year-old boy and a 30-year-old man are dead after a crash in Cass County Friday. It happened around 8:15 p.m. on M-60 near Pine Lake Street in Howard Township. Troopers say a 2006 Ford car was westbound on M-60 at a high rate of speed when it crossed the centerline and crashed head-on into an eastbound 2007 Ford SUV. The driver of the Ford car and his passenger were both killed. They were identified as 30-year-old Phillip Parker and his 5-year-old son, both of Centreville. Police say it’s not known if the driver was wearing a seatbelt, but the passenger was properly buckled. It’s also unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash. The driver of the Ford SUV has been identified as a 39-year-old South Bend man, and his passenger, a 39-year-old Niles man. Both suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The crash remains under investigation pending toxicology results and prosecutor’s review.
