A Niles man is facing embezzlement charges after police say he stole money from a baseball league. The Niles Police Department says 24-year-old Dakota Jackson in September reported his vehicle had been burglarized with nearly $6,000 stolen along with some medication. The money belonged to the Thomas Stadium adult baseball league. Jackson is affiliated with the stadium and led a crowdfunding effort to restore it. Shortly after he reported the vehicle break in, police were notified that Thomas Stadium money, in the care of Jackson, was missing and unaccounted for. That prompted an embezzlement investigation that involved the retrieval of financial documents and a police interview with Jackson. The matter was referred to the prosecutor’s office, which has charged Jackson with a count of embezzlement between $1,000 and $20,000 and false report of a felony. He was arraigned Wednesday and faces up to five years in prison.
