The bottled water distribution effort in Benton Harbor has changed. The United Way of Southwest Michigan’s Jennifer Tomshack tells WSJM News they’re centralizing the pickup location. As of now, the place to pick up bottled water is Benton Harbor High School.

“With winter weather coming up, the parking lot at the high school is quite large and will be reliably plowed, so it can accommodate the large trucks that are bringing in the water and it will be safe for cars and the trucks to come into a clean driveway,” Tomshack said. “This also just kind of streamlines the whole operation because it’s always being held in the same place.”

The time to stop by is between 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. or between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Saturday has an additional time of 2 to 4 p.m. On Sunday, the hours are 2 to 4 and 4 to 6. Tomshack says the same organizations that previously ran water pickup sites will be running pick up days now, only they’ll be at the high school instead of different locations around the city. Self-service distribution will also be held Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday at the Southwest Michigan Community Action Agency Warehouse.

Tomshack says they need volunteers for all distribution dates. Anyone who would like to help can sign up at UWSM.org.
