With holiday light displays going up in public places and on homes this winter, AAA is reminding drivers not to get distracted. Spokesperson Adrienne Woodland tells WSJM News driving around to check out light displays is a great way to get in the holiday spirit, but it can also create dangers.

“You want to stay focused on the road while the vehicle is in motion,” Woodland said. “It’s nice to look at the lights, but you need to stay focused on the road ahead of you. You definitely want to constantly scan the area for bicyclists, pedestrians, and young children who may not be watching for you.”

Woodland says if you need to look up a location, pull over first. Do not come to a complete stop in a traffic lane, and if you encounter someone who has stopped, only pass if it is safe and legal to do so. AAA also recommends winterizing your car. It offers tips for doing so at its website.
