As kids ages five to eleven prepare to roll up their sleeves, there’s a coloring book available to calm their nerves if they’re feeling anxious. Rachel Schmelzer is a child life specialist at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and says the coloring book is all about helping kids be prepared:

“If it’s something like a needle stick, knowing what to expect and knowing the steps of what the doctor or nurse will be taking to give that injection helps to feel in control so they know what’s coming next,” Schmelzer said.

Schmelzer spoke with Michigan News Network about the coloring book this week. The free coloring book is available for download at Together.StJude.org/coloring.
