The Berrien County Board of Commissioners is working on the county budget for 2022. During a presentation Thursday, Financial Services Director Doug James said the proposed budget envisions about $148 million in revenues and $155 million in expenditures.

“It also shows a use of fund balance of $7.6 million,” James said.

The fund balance is like the county’s savings. James also noted the budget takes into account federal COVID-19 relief funds.

“We have $800,000 that we budgeted a use for those funds in 2022.”

James said some county funds, like the public safety fund, are being drawn down. That’s something commissioners may need to look at when it’s time for their millage renewal. County Administrator Brian Dissette said amendments to the budget are all but certain with the federal COVID money coming in.
