Some Benton Harbor businesses have already reached out to Cornerstone Alliance about getting their water tested for lead since Cornerstone announced a service to do so this past week. President Rob Cleveland tells WSJM News there’s confusion Cornerstone Alliance would like to clear up.

“We’ve had some concern from the business community, there’s a lot of uncertainty in the marketplace right now, and our program is designed to help mitigate some of that uncertainty,” Cleveland said.

Cleveland says restaurants, coffee shops, and more would like some clarity. For a Benton Harbor business to get free lead testing, they just have to contact Cornerstone Alliance.

“It should be less than two weeks, approximately two weeks, depending on how quickly you can get into the queue. They’ll come in, take a couple of days to get your water tested, get it scheduled, get it tested, send it off, and then within eight to ten days you should have a response.”

Cleveland hopes the testing being offered could bridge the gap between now and when the state and city have the lead issue figured out and resolved. You can find out more at CStoneAlliance.org/testing.
