Governor Gretchen Whitmer was a big target on Mackinac Island this past weekend as the Republican Leadership Conference was held. It’s an event that happens every two years, bringing some of the biggest names in the party to Northern Michigan. Michigan News Network reporter Charlie Langton spoke about what happened at the conference.

“What I’m finding out is a lot of people here, Republicans, are actually divided, and before they can set policies, they’re going to have to make a decision on are they for Trump or anti-Trump, in a way, and it seems to me there’s a division, even among the leadership. The main leaders are trying to figure out what policies will resonate with Michigan voters. To be honest with you, it’s really divided, and it’s not just me saying that. I talked to the Speaker of the House yesterday, Jason Wentworth, and he said the same thing. I talked to Ronna Romney, the head of the national Republican party, and she said all over the country there’s the Trump factor.”

Texas Senator Ted Cruz addressed the conference, saying the Republican Party is and should be going forward the party of working men and women and the party of jobs. He also mocked Governor Whitmer.
