Congressman Fred Upton is anticipating some rough weeks ahead in the U.S. House as lawmakers will return this month with two major spending bills to contend with. He’s tells WSJM News anxious for a House vote on the bipartisan infrastructure bill that was approve by the Senate. However, there’s a competing spending bill.

“Speaker Pelosi is going to do all she can to bring up a $3.5 trillion spending bill,” Upton said. “It includes a lot of changes, tax hikes, from the Trump tax cuts that passed back in 2017. She’s going to do all that she can to pass this in lieu of the $1.2 trillion bipartisan package that the Senate passed 69 to 30 a couple of weeks ago.”

Upton says the vote on that $3.5 trillion bill will be close. He expects it to be by the end of the week of September 20, while there will be a vote on the bipartisan $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill a few days later. He says the more modest bill is paid for and will address key infrastructure needs.
