The Mackinac Bridge Labor Day Bridge Walk is on for this coming Monday, but COVID-19 numbers have been on the rise again in Michigan with the Delta variant. Kim Nowak is the director of the Mackinac Bridge Authority. She spoke with Michigan News Network about plans.

“We’re watching the CDC recommendations,” Nowak said. “Right now, they recommend that if you find yourself among folks who are not in your immediate family and you’re closer than six feet, they recommend that you do wear a mask. So we are putting that on our website and using that information for the walk.”

Nowak says they had 30,000 walkers in 2019, the last year the walk was held. She says traffic has been up about five percent on the bridge since 2019. The Mackinac Bridge will be closed to traffic on Labor Day from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m. while the bridge walk is taking place.
