Michigan State Police have now taken over an investigation into a weekend shooting that left a Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s deputy dead along with the suspect. Kalamazoo County Sheriff Richard Fuller was asked if he knew what happened leading up to the incident.

“There are so many different things in today’s world that could cause any of these events that occurred that night or anybody’s criminal activity,” Fuller said. “There’s never going to be one thing.”

Deputy Ryan Proxmire died from his injuries after being shot following a chase on Saturday night. 35-year-old Kyle Goidosik of Vicksburg was identified as the shooter. Fuller said the suspect pointed a gun at deputies at a gas station in Galesburg Saturday night then drove off. The deputies chased the suspect who shot and critically wounded Deputy Ryan Proxmire during that pursuit. The suspect was killed in an exchange of gunfire with other deputies.
