The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has announced a volunteer stewardship day at Warren Dunes State Park for next week. On Saturday, August 21, volunteers will remove spotted knapweed from the park to help protect the dune system and threatened Pitcher’s thistle. The DNR says the sun-loving spotted knapweed will crowd out native flora if left unchecked. Volunteers will focus on pulling plants from the critical area near the thistle plants. Long sleeves are recommended as some people can be sensitive to this plant. Those who wish to help can register via e-mail. The volunteers will meet at the picnic area south of the campground, and the work will take place from 10 a.m. to noon.
