 1914, the world’s first electric traffic light was installed in Cleveland,

1924 The comic strip Little Orphan Annie, by Harold Gray debuted. He was considered to be the first American cartoonist to use a comic strip to express a political philosophy.

1962 Marilyn Monroe was found dead in her L-A home at 36. The cause of death was acute barbiturate poisoning.

1957 The music-performance/dance television show American Bandstand hosted by Dick Clark debuted on ABC TV.

1978 The Rolling Stones were at No.1 on the US singles chart with ‘Miss You’ the group’s eighth US No.1. The song was written by Mick Jagger after jamming with keyboardist Billy Preston during rehearsals for forthcoming club dates the Stones were playing.
