The 38th annual National Night Out is set for Tuesday, August 3 with events taking place across the country. The St. Joseph Township Police Department says a local celebration will be at Maiden Lane Community Park from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Residents are asked to lock their doors, turn on their outside lights, and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police. National Night Out is a chance for the citizens of a given community to get to know their local police and other first responders. At the St. Joseph Township event, there will be a Jaws of Life demonstration, a landing by Med Flight out of South Bend, fire trucks, police cars, and other emergency equipment available to view. Hot dogs, chips, soda, and ice cream sundaes will be provided free of charge. Everyone’s welcome to come out and meet their first responders. More than 34 million people are expected to take part in “America’s Night Out Against Crime” on the third.
