The University of Michigan is creating a new office dedicated to investigating sexual misconduct claims, which will provide support to victims and offer education to the campus community. The announcement came at the Regents meeting on Thursday, where President Mark Schlissel said starting immediately, U of M employees can not initiate a sexual relationship with subordinates.

“For hiring and promotions into leadership positions, we’re examining ways to further scrutinize candidates and ensure that information about policy violations and other misconduct is available to decision makers and systematically considered with respect to internal and external candidates.”

Schlissel says the board will now revoke the Emeritus status awarded to some alum if questions arise about their tenure at the school.
