The Berrien County Sheriff’s Department says a 23-year-old woman is dead after being struck by a pickup while she was riding an ATV on Saturday afternoon. It happened on Hipps Hollow Road west of Evans Road in Sodus Township at about 3:50 p.m. Sheriff’s deputies arrived to find an unresponsive female lying in the front yard of a home. The 23-year-old Illinois woman was pronounced deceased at the scene. Police determined that an ATV driven by the victim was struck by a westbound Ford Pickup truck. The woman had been riding on a long two track dirt driveway with friends riding other ATVs and dirt bikes and had to cross Hipps Hollow Rd to ride trails. She was trailing a short distance behind the others trying to catch up and did not yield for oncoming traffic before crossing the road. She then pulled into the path of the truck. The driver of the truck, a 16-year-old male from Buchanan, was not injured. The victim was not wearing a helmet. Her name has not been released.
