The masks are off and more people are allowed into restaurants. With the official lifting of COVID-19 restrictions in Michigan, the state’s chief medical executive, Dr. Joneigh Khaldun, believes 15 months later, things are finally returning to normal here in Michigan.

“The worst of the pandemic is absolutely behind us,” Khaldun said this week. “So let’s keep up our trajectory, let’s get more shots in arms, and let’s end this pandemic once and for all and absolutely get everyone back to normal.”

Khaldun says there are still concerns about the Delta variant of the virus, which has been detected in Michigan in recent days. That variant is considered highly contagious and will soon dominate in the United States.
