Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel has announced the launch of a new hotline to report cases of abuse by Boy Scout leaders. In a video released Thursday, Nessel said in order to pursue charges against Boy Scout leaders who have committed abuse, it’s necessary for their victims to come forward with their stories, even if it is difficult for them.

“Just like our work investigating clergy abuse, it is crucial to secure justice, in this case, for those who have endured abuse by the Boy Scouts, and to hold accountable those who have committed those criminal acts,” Nessel said.

The Michigan Attorney General’s office and Michigan State Police have launched a joint investigation into the Boy Scouts of America. It’s similar to the ongoing investigation into abuse by Catholic clergy. Nessel says anyone with information about the Boy Scouts of America that could help can call the investigation hotline at 844-324-3374 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Tips can be left anonymously.
