With the Fourth of July fast approaching, we could see record setting holiday travel. Travel over the Fourth of July is expected to bounce back to pre-pandemic levels according to Triple-A Michigan spokeswoman Adrienne Woodland.

“Certainly travel continues to rebound after the year-long pandemic and AAA forecasts that travel volumes for Independence Day 2021 will actually be the second highest on record, nearing the highs that were set in 2019,” says Woodland.

Woodland says 7.7 million Americans are expected to take a trip, that’s a nearly 40% jump from last year. About 1.5 million Michigan residents are expected to travel over the holiday, the third most on record and 22% higher than 2020. 90% of the holiday travel is expected to be by car in spite of higher gas prices.
