Starting on Wednesday for the summer will be the Benton Harbor Farmers Market. Berrien County Health Department spokesperson Gillian Conrad tells WSJM News the market is a great way for Benton Harbor residents to get fresh produce that isn’t available in many places in the community.

“We want to be able to have fresh produce available in our community, and it’s a great market to go to,” Conrad said. “You can buy fresh produce with Bridge Cards. We also are offering the Double Up Food Bucks program again this year.”

Double Up Food Bucks enables a Bridge Card user to double their money when shopping at the farmers market. Conrad says there are all kinds of activities that take place at City Center Park when the farmers market is going on.

“We will have the Benton Harbor Library doing story time for children, the YMCA of Greater Michiana will be doing Zumba classes outdoors, we have the Great Start Collaborative that will be there several days doing a parent coalition booth.”

Thanks to relaxed COVID rules, there won’t be pandemic restrictions this year, although they will have hand sanitizing stations. The Benton Harbor Farmers Market will be each Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at City Center Park starting next week and continuing through September 15.
