The state House Oversight Committee held a hearing on Thursday to discuss the need for walk-in services at Secretary of State offices. Among those testifying was former state Representative Joe Graves, who spoke about his experience trying to get a license plate for his new RV.

“The young lady I talked to at the Secretary of State was not helpful,” testified Graves, who then asked for a manager. “The manager came over and she said ‘Yeah, you’re probably not going to get through on that number.’ She said I can email them, but I tell you right now that mailbox is not monitored on a regular basis. How do you run a Secretary of State without monitoring a mailbox?”

The committee also heard testimony on a bill package extending the grace period on vehicle registration late fees until September.
