Congress doesn’t appear to have much to do in the way of a budget for the time being. Congressman Fred Upton tells us the House this week approved $1.5 trillion spending resolution that set an appropriations ceiling for the fiscal year that starts in October.

“You’re not going to see a budget passed in the House or the Senate,” Upton said. “The votes aren’t there, and the fiscal year ends the end of September. I don’t think you’re going to see any appropriations bills probably reach the House floor prior to the August break. So, as they say, it’s going to be a busy fall as we look at a debt ceiling, as we look at the continuation of the government after the September 30 mark.”

Upton says the fall will be packed with activity with not many legislative days between now and September. For now, it’s not likely Congress will do much more on the budget.
