An Illinois man is dead following a crash in Oronoko Township this week. Michigan State Police say it happened around 8:30 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Shawnee Road and Garr Road. A Saturn SUV had been northbound on Garr Road when it failed to stop for a stop sign. It proceeded into the intersection and struck a Toyota passenger car that was westbound on Shawnee. The driver of the car was 66-year-old Justo Morales from De Kalb, Illinois. He was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, a 66-year-old woman also from De Kalb, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Memorial Hospital in South Bend. The driver of the truck, a 19-year-old man from Benton Harbor, and his passenger, a 20-year-old woman also from Benton Harbor, were taken to Spectrum Health Lakeland in St. Joseph with no reported injuries. The driver was subsequently arrested and taken to the Berrien County Jail pending charges and arraignment as it is believed drugs were a factor in the crash.
