Maintenance work is underway on the M-139 bridge over the St. Joseph River in Benton Township. Michigan Department of Transportation spokesperson Nick Schirripa tells WSJM News the agency is lengthening the lifespan of the bridge by doing deck patching, joint replacements, and barrier repairs. The work zone is only about 500 feet long.

“We will have a single lane closure in effect,” Schirripa said. “We are going to have a lane open in each direction so you are going to be able to get through at all times. It might slow your traffic a little bit, but it’s not a terribly long construction zone, so maybe just a minute of time on your daily commute.”

Schirripa says the $541,000 project started Monday and is expected to be finished in mid September. He asks drivers to slow down when going through the construction zone and pay extra attention.
