President Biden toured a Ford electric car plant in Dearborn as part of an effort to tout his American Jobs Plan. The plan, which aims to create jobs by rebuilding US infrastructure, has gotten little support from Republican lawmakers in Congress, who say it’s too expensive. But Biden, speaking to auto workers, says the plan will help re-position auto workers to take on jobs in new technologies, like EV, which will ultimately position the US to be a leader.

“The real question is whether we ll lead or we’ll fall behind in the race of the future, or whether we’ll build these vehicles and the batteries and go in them here in the United States or rely on other countries. Or whether the jobs to build these vehicles and batteries are good paying, union jobs with benefits, jobs that will sustain and grow the middle class,” said Biden.

The factory will make Ford’s F-150 Lightning next year. The truck will be unveiled Wednesday.
