New COVID-19 Cases At 2,171

Michigan’s new COVID-19 cases are at 2,171 for Wednesday to bring the pandemic total to 869,512. The Department of Health and Human Services says 17 died for a total of 18,355. State chief medical executive Dr. Joneigh Khaldun says the metrics being tracked are improving.

“The percent of tests that are positive is 9.8%, almost half of where we were at our peak in the beginning of April,” says Khaldun. “11.8% of hospital beds  are being used for COVID-19 patients, and our hospitalizations are continuing to decline.”

In southwest Michigan, Berrien County has just 12 new cases for a total of 13,560 and deaths are the same at 256. There are five new cases in Cass County for a total of 4,688 with 70 deaths. Van Buren County has 13 new cases for 6,479 with deaths also unchanged at 110.
