Things could soon return to near-normal for the Berrien County Board of Commissioners. During Thursday’s meeting, which was over Zoom, Commissioner Julie Wuerfel made a suggestion.

“I would just like to request that we start a plan to go back to in-person meetings, perhaps in June,” Wuerfel said. “The CDC lifting outdoor guidance, and the governor adopting that guidance, our parks can certainly accommodate our meetings for outdoors, or if we do indoors, if we go to a hybrid method with the commission being together and the public on Zoom.”

Wuerfel said she recently attended a meeting of the St. Joseph Township Board of Trustees that was done via a hybrid model, and it worked well. Commission Chair Mac Elliott said he’ll ask the administration committee to discuss plans for a return to in-person meetings. He then wondered if the county board meetings should continue to be broadcast on YouTube. More information on the board’s plans could come next week.
