Whirlpool Corporation has announced a $50 million project to create a 150,000 square foot state-of-the-art technology center in St. Joseph. It says it’s exploring options to rebuild or renovate its Global Technology Center near the company’s Global and North American Headquarters in Benton Harbor. The effort would be a multi-year, multi-phase project, beginning in 2021 and finishing in 2023. The new facility would replace much or all of the existing St. Joseph Technology Center, parts of which are more than 100 years old. News of the investment in the St. Joe Tech Center comes right on the heels of Whirlpool’s announcement of a $22 million housing development on Riverview Drive in Benton Harbor. Whirlpool VP of Corporate Communications Jeff Noel says ensuring “we have world-class testing and product development labs will help us remain competitive and attract and retain highly qualified talent.”
