There was an average of 13 crashes recorded in work zones in Michigan per day last year. Michigan State Police Colonel Joe Gasper says the state is making an ongoing effort to get down to zero.

“As drivers, we all need to do our part,” Gasper said. “We all need to be alert. We need to watch for signs, and prepare for slowdowns, but most importantly, when you’re behind the wheel you must give the task of driving your undivided attention.”

Gasper attended an event Wednesday at a work zone in Macomb County to promote National Work Zone Safety Awareness week. 15 people died in work zone crashes in Michigan last year, including five workers and ten drivers and passengers.
