It’s easier than ever to get a COVID-19 vaccine. Berrien County Health Department Communications Manager Gillian Conrad tells WSJM News the county has close to 45% of its population with at least one dose of vaccine, and appointments at vaccine clinics are not filling up nearly as quickly as they were in at the start of the rollout.

“The time of the mass vaccination clinic where thousands of people are coming through in a single day might be over,” Conrad said. “We might be moving more toward smaller clinics, more community settings, workplace settings, schools even.”

Conrad says now is the time to get yourself a shot if you want to but haven’t.

“If you have been on the fence, if you have been waiting because you think it’s not your turn yet, if you’ve just been holding back trying to see how the rest of this thing goes, now is a great time to come and get your vaccine. Appointments are widely available throughout the community.”

In addition to the Berrien County Health Department, providers of the vaccine in the area include Spectrum Health Lakeland, nearly all pharmacies, and doctor’s offices are starting to get shots. Conrad expects soon enough COVID vaccines will be handled like flu vaccines in that people can get them when they want and where they want. She reminds everyone who gets a shot to hang on to their vaccine card. You may need it later.
