University of Michigan Regent and state Republican party chair Ron Weiser says he “will not be canceled” after his fellow regents today formally called for his resignation. Weiser has been in hot water after calling the governor, secretary of state and attorney general “three witches” and joking about assassinating Congressmen Fred Upton and Peter Meijer.

“I take full responsibility for what I said and I am sorry and regret my poorly chosen words that were offhand remarks made at a private Republican Party meeting,” said Weiser. “I agree with part of this resolution, but I will not resign.”

The regents can not force Weiser to leave, but they did remove him from all committees. The vote to call on Weiser to resign was 6-0 with one abstention.
