A report will be released next week with the latest data on low income workers in Michigan, including in Berrien, Cass, and Van Buren counties. The United Way of Southwest Michigan says the 2021 ALICE Report will be unveiled by the Michigan Association of United Ways and Governor Gretchen Whitmer on Tuesday. The report focuses on those known as being in the ALICE population. ALICE stands for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed, and refers to those who aren’t below the federal poverty line, but are close and struggle to pay for things like housing, transportation, technology, and childcare. United Way of Southwest Michigan President Anna Murphy says the study will help the organization better understand the needs of those it serves.
