After sitting empty for several years, the former Bronson Nursing and Rehabilitation building on Walker Street in Lawton is receiving a $3.3 million investment to undergo renovations before it reopens as an assisted living facility. Market Van Buren announced the groundbreaking this week. The Lawton facility is expected to open in the summer of 2021 and will bring 50 new jobs to the community. Market Van Buren says the renovated Walker Street building will open under the name Blueberry Hill Assisted Living and is expected to be the home for about 80 people. Blueberry Hill resident rooms will be private unless a resident wishes to share their room with another person, like a spouse. The building will also have a ventilation system designed to stop the spread of germs between rooms. The project is a joint effort between the Village of Lawton, Van Buren County, and Market Van Buren.
