The Berrien County Board of Commissioners has hired engineering firm Abonmarche to help run the road department following the county’s separation with Jason Latham, the department’s former director. During a Thursday meeting, Commissioner Jim Curran explained how the arrangement with Abonmarche will work.

“We need to get management installed out at the road department,” Curran said. “Neil Coulston is not going to stay very long. He will stay on for a short period of time to help with project management. Chris Cook with Abonmarche is going to take the lead out there and basically be the interim director for the road department.”

Cook will also bring his Abonmarche staff with him. Curran said the contract calls for $19,000 per month to be paid to Abonmarche and runs through June 25. Current interim director Neil Coulston will work with Cook for as long as needed. The county commission last approved a resolution creating the partnership.
