The Dowagiac Police Department says a Cassopolis woman is in custody following a car theft on Tuesday. Officers were called to the BP station on North Front Street in Dowagiac shortly after 8:45 p.m. on a report of a vehicle that was stolen while left unoccupied and running. They got the vehicle description and it was only a few minutes before they spotted it on Riverside Drive near Dogwood Circle. The vehicle was pulled over and the 27-year-old woman driving it was taken into custody. Police learned she had an arrest warrant out of Saginaw Township for car theft. She’s now charged with the unlawful driving away of an automobile and for the Saginaw warrant. Police remind everyone not to leave their cars running while unattended. Dowagiac Police have received several calls of stolen vehicles due to them being left running and unoccupied.
