Part of a Van Buren County State Park is closed while a utility project is completed. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources says a roughly three mile segment of Van Buren Trail State Park, or snowmobile trail LP 595, is off limits due to the American Electric Power project. The company is doing work along a14-mile trail that runs along a former railroad line and links the cities of Hartford and South Haven. Some of the construction work will be done in areas where there are no alternate access points, and there are some detours posted. The DNR says the trail is closed during the AEP work for safety reasons. The timeline for reopening depends on the maintenance that will be required on the trail.
