Verlyn William Cowgill

Verlyn’s life began December 14, 1937, in Coloma, Michigan. He was raised in Watervliet where he attended school and lived most of his adult life.  Verlyn worked for the Watervliet Paper Company for 25 years until retirement.  He also did body work on vehicles and during retirement worked at The Movie Library in Watervliet.  Verlyn enjoyed being outside gardening and landscaping his yard.  When he couldn’t be outside you could find Verlyn bowling or watching Westerns. Verlyn was an active member of his church First Missionary Baptist in Coloma where he taught Sunday school for many years.

Verlyn’s greatest joy was spending time with his loving family which includes: his wife of 41 years Jerry (Miner) Cowgill; two children Kathy (Robert) Hornbarger and Kevin Cowgill; two step-children Larry Craig and Mary (Jose) De Uroiste; 10 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; a brother Clarence (Roberta) Cowgill; and many nieces and nephews.

Verlyn died Monday, January 18, 2021, at Spectrum Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph.  Verlyn is preceded in death by; a son Rick Cowgill, two step-sons Don Craig and Steve Craig, a brother Ernie Cowgill, and his parents Clarence and Ruth (Woodworth) Cowgill.  Hutchins Funeral Home is assisting Veryln’s family with cremation and his family will celebrate his life at a later date.  Memorials may be made to Verlyn’s family.  You are invited to leave a message of comfort for Verlyn’s family.
