Coming in January to the Mendel Center, at least virtually, will be an out of this world presentation. “National Geographic Live presents Life on Other Worlds” will be offered for streaming on January 19. This is the first National Geographic progrm to be offered by the Mendel Center. It will feature planetary scientist Kevin Peter Hand and NASA engineer Kobie Boykins. They’ll look at how close humanity might be to discovering life on other planets. NASA’s Perseverance rover is due to land on Mars in 2021 to search for signs of ancient life and collect rock and soil samples for possible return to Earth. Jupiter’s moon Europa is home to a subsurface ocean, a body of water that could sustain primitive forms of life on this alien world nearly 600 million miles from our planet. Hand and Boykins will explore these subjects and more. It will be $15 for anyone to view the presentation, and you can get tickets at the Mendel Center’s website.
