The County Road Association of Michigan is highlighting a new technique being used by the Berrien County Road Department during the recent rebuild of Napier Avenue. The department installed road fabric in the asphalt. It’s a waterproof membrane placed in between hot mix asphalt layers to keep water from penetrating through it. It’s hoped the road fabric will help prevent cracks in the pavement and also make future repairs easier. The Berrien County Road Department’s Napier project is featured in the latest edition of Crossroads magazine, a County Road Association of Michigan publication. It says the local department will keep an eye on the stretch of Napier with road fabric in the coming years, comparing it to other projects without the material.
