Michigan is easing some of its shutdown orders as the state sees COVID-19 transmission going down. Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Director Robert Gordon on Friday announced starting on Monday, high schools can resume in-person learning. That’s not all.

“Indoor entertainment and recreation will open for individuals or single households,” Gordon said. “This includes arenas, cinemas, concert halls, performance venues, amusement parks, bowling alleys, casinos, and gun ranges. Because masking is so important, concessions with food and drink will not be permitted.”

That means dining in at restaurants. Although high schools will be allowed to reopen, there will be limits on activities like sports.

“Many K-12 extracurricular activities will reopen, except for those that involve close physical contact among participants, a high degree of exhalation or physical exertion indoors, or where masks can’t be worn.”

Gordon said the state is looking at an antigen testing program that could allow more high school sports to resume in some cases this fall. Dining in at restaurants remains prohibited through at least January 15.
