Michigan is reporting 4,180 additional cases of COVID-19 for Friday. The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services coronavirus website says the state has had more than 454,000 cases of COVID since the pandemic started. It reported 66 additional deaths for Friday, bringing the total to 11,274. Michigan Chief Medical Executive Dr. Joneigh Khaldun said Friday the trend has been encouraging after the state was seeing more than 8,000 daily new cases a few weeks ago.

“While I’m still concerned that our cases are 6 times higher than they were at the beginning of September, things are certainly trending in the right direction,” Khaldun said.

Khaldun noted the deaths remain high, as deaths lag weeks behind the new infection numbers.

“While our number of deaths has plateaued, we’re still seeing more than 100 deaths a day. We must continue to remain vigilant.”

For Friday, the Berrien County Health Department’s COVID dashboard showed the county with 61 additional cases of COVID over Thursday, bringing its total since March to 8,126. The county had no additional deaths, keeping its total at 146. Berrien County on Friday had 40 non-ICU hospitalizations and 8 patients in the intensive care unit. Van Buren County reported 38 additional cases for Friday, making for a pandemic total of 3,597 cases and 65 deaths.
