The Berrien County Sheriff’s Department has been raising money for two causes with No Shave November and December this year. Undersheriff Chuck Heit tells WSJM News the sheriff made a special exception to the regulations for uniformed personnel.

“By our policy, we would not be allowed to have beards while in uniform, and so for November and December the sheriff has relaxed that policy,” Heit said. “To participate, employees pay $50 per month, and that goes to a charity. “

Heit says the sheriff’s department raised $2,660 for the Special Olympics of Michigan in November while the month of December raised $2,400 for pediatric cancer research via The Cure Starts Now. This is the third year the department has taken part in No Shave months to raise money for charity.
