Even in the year of COVID, there will be bell ringers collecting donations for the Salvation Army in South Haven this weekend. The Rotary Club of South Haven’s Tom Renner tells WSJM News about 30 Rotarians will be manning the red kettles on Saturday. He says the campaign has been a tradition since 1982, and it takes on new significance here in 2020.

“We’re aware of the needs that have been the result of the COVID pandemic, not only in our community but throughout southwestern Michigan, and the office of the Salvation Army that we work with is located in the Benton Harbor-St. Joseph area so we know their reach to help people is great,” Renner said.

The Rotarians will be ringing bells and taking cash donations from 7 a.m. to noon at the Golden Brown Bakery on Phoenix Street Saturday. They will also be at the South Haven Walmart from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. at both entrances. Renner says they’ll be masked up and following proper COVID protocols.
