A Watervliet business has been cited by the state for COVID-19 violations. The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration says Lane Automotive is among 9 businesses being cited around the state in the latest round. It says Lane has been fined $3,500 for violations of COVID-19 workplace safety requirements including the lack of face coverings when employees were within six feet of each other, allowing barriers to be removed in break rooms so employees could sit next to each other, and not avoiding larger meetings when social distancing was possible. MIOSHA’s inspection at the business was done as a result of an employee complaint. MIOSHA says its “general duty” clause requires an employer to provide a workplace that is free from recognized hazards that are causing, or are likely to cause, death or serious physical harm to employees. A general duty clause citation carries a fine of up to $7,000.
