Funerals are still limited to 25 people, and there is concern in the industry that limit could be extended when current COVID restrictions expire. Michigan Funeral Home Directors Association Executive Phil Douma told Michigan News Network this week the limit has been tough on all involved.

“Having those limitations can be very difficult, more so for the grieving families, but it’s difficult for our members to not be able to provide the full array of visitation, services, funerals, and memorials that traditionally provide the kind of comfort to grieving families at this time,” Douma said.

Douma says funeral homes aren’t currently over capacity with remains, as they were in the Spring with the initial onslaught of COVID deaths. The Michigan Funeral Home Directors Association Executive Director says families now are webcasting funerals, and staggering services to allow for multiple, small-group gatherings.
