It’s been one year since the first sale of recreational marijuana in Michigan. The state Marijuana Regulatory Agency says there has been more than $440 million worth of pot sold, with the state taking in more than $72 million in sales and excise taxes. The agency’s executive director, Andrew Brisbo, says sales were boosted by the coronavirus.

“None of us were really sure what the pandemic was going to mean when it came to the evolution of the industry, but it seemed to buoy sales and bolster them as people were staying home and investing in the products,” says Brisbo.

Recreational sales are averaging about $12.6 million per week for the last five weeks.
