With a surge of online holiday shopping expect this year, law enforcement officials are warning local residents to be on the lookout for package thieves. Southfield Police Chief Elvin Barren recommends investing in a home surveillance system.
“It is a great deterrent against crime and it gives law enforcement some type of resource to identify the perpetrators,” says Barren. “The technology allows you to be at work, out shopping, and look at your phone to see who’s at your door.”
Barren says if a package is stolen from your front porch call 911 immediately. Officers may be able to apprehend the thief if they’re given a suspect and vehicle description.
