Do not wait for a call from the Berrien County Health Department if you think you may be among those who have contracted COVID-19. Spokeswoman Gillian Conrad tells WSJM News they can no longer keep up with contact tracing like they did a month ago and everyone needs to help out.

“If you know that you have tested positive for the virus, please go home immediately and isolate away from others,” says Conrad. “If you know that you had close contact with somebody who tested positive, please go home and quarantine immediately away from others.”

How is close contact defined?

“Close contact is anybody who has been within 6 feet of an infected person for at least 15 minutes within that person’s infectious period,” explains Conrad.

The Berrien County Health Department now is prioritizing case investigations to notify those who are age 65 or older, those who are under 18 or in school, and those who live in long-term care facilities, like nursing homes.
